It was December 2010, and Sarah Fotheringham and Maninder Singh both found themselves living in Delhi. Maninder had recently moved back after living in Melbourne, and Sarah had left London, having got a job as an art director with Wieden + Kennedy Delhi. A chance meeting at a photoshoot led to a Boxing Day date, and the start of a many nights of planning. Driven by a love of beautiful things and a desire to work and travel together, two years later, designer homeware brand Safomasi was born!
A reflection of Sarah’s background as an artist and illustrator and Maninder’s experience in fashion and production, they are inspired by both the everyday and the exotic. Every single product is handmade and totally unique, and tells the story of a journey, with the aim of bringing joy and a small part of their colourful world into your home.
After just over a year in business, they were proud to win in the Bedroom category at the Elle Deco International Design Awards, India 2013 for their Camel Traders print.
Oobuntoo Loves: The contemporary designs that are inspired by the travels of the co-owners Sarah and Maninder. Various cultures and influences blend to form unique fabrics that are representative of mundane and exotic tales from across the world. Traditional screen printing in vibrant colours, fun trimmings and a distinctive style leads to a unique, handmade range of products that are easy on the eye yet have a story to tell.
