Imagine going to the vending machine in your lunch break for a snack and getting a surfboard instead! That’s exactly what the unsuspecting citizens of San Francisco were treated to thanks to a 14-foot tall ecotourism vending machine installed by Tourism British Columbia at Justin Herman Plaza.
The tourism board’s ‘giant’ marketing stunt was a huge success with crowds lining up to see what would pop out next. Designed to promote British Columbia as an adventure travel destination, the vending machine dispensed travel goodies like kayaks, bicycles, life jackets, travel packs, postcards and even a surfboard.
The innovative ecotourism campaign delighted the crowds gathered around it and encouraged people to head out to British Columbia to try some of the outdoor activities for themselves.
Covered with massive images of gorgeous scenery, dispensing cool adventure sports equipment and travel treats, the campaign really highlighted the range of ecotourism experiences on offer in the Canadian province.
Check out the video to see what other surprises were doled out by the giant ecotourism vending machine.
Well played Tourism British Columbia, well played!
